Now that she had her visa, and her flight to the Philippine's the next Monday, she had another delay..... Remember her shoulder dislocation in Taylor? Well, she had another dislocation while serving in Show Low, that she didn't tell me about. This dislocation happened while she and her companion were playing tennis with the elders, right before she was to leave for the Philippines.... I received a phone call from Pres. Robinson while we were camping at Pineview Reservoir, telling me of the second time of dislocation, and that they had cancelled her flight to the Philippines. He was really sweet, and hadn't told Emily yet. I was grateful that he and Pres. Newman had made the decision to cancel her flight without me. I wished him luck telling Em. I could hear emotion in his voice, and told me how much they loved and appreciated Sister Adams. On Aug 20, 2018, at 10:42 PM, President Marc B. Robinson wrote: Brother and Sister Adams Sister Emily Adams was seen by an ortho surgeon in Mesa today. he examined her but did not do an MRI. Given her History of dislocations he said she has a 100% chance of another dislocation in the next year. It is his opinion that with each dislocation the chance of success of surgery to repair it decreases. He recommended surgery. We have conveyed that information to Salt Lake. The decision to have her return home for the surgery and rehab is made by the Brethren, not me or the doctors here. We expect an answer from Salt Lake in the next day or two. And I would expect that they will want her to return home. Would you be available any day and time this week to pick her up? If there are days or times that won’t work please let me know. President Newman: Please let me know if you have any differing opinions about what is being proposed or if you concur in the direction this is going. Thanks. We love Sister Adams. She has been an amazing missionary while here. President Robinson I support this. Let’s get that shoulder repaired so she can get back out to the mission field. All the best, Jan Jan Newman President Elk Ridge Utah Stake We were able to get Emily into Dr. Blake Gillette a couple of days later. His PA is in our ward, and they got us in for appts. over and over again when there weren't appts. available. We are so grateful for them! Em had surgery on August 28th to repair her torn labrum, and all went really well! She was to have her arm in a sling for 6 weeks and 6 weeks of physical therapy thereafter. So many tender mercies have been recognized as we look back on the happenings since the start of her mission. It was tough being home when she just really wanted to be serving. We tried to keep her busy so that she didn't go stir crazy while she was recovering and in limbo. I truly loved my time with her while she was home. Her friends were busy with college, getting married, and boyfriends and jobs, and so she was my sidekick for most of the time. I will treasure this time with her forever. Here are a few things that she was able to catch while she was home for 2 and a half months. Best friend Talia Christensen's weddingFIRES Bald Mtn. in the front yard, and Pole Creek in our backyard. We had to evacuate our house for 10 days. We loaded the boat, and all of our pictures, and family dvd's, and a few days worth of clothes. We stayed at Em's cousin Elizabeth's house for a couple of days in Springville. Gma, and Gpa Taggart's over the weekend, and then at Aunt Lori's in Orem for 4 nights. She was in Greece, and offered her house to us. Not one house was burned even as the fire was pushed toward our city with winds. It came down the mountain towards us, and stopped and went back up. The mountain is being renamed miracle mtn. Our first Sunday back after the evacuation, we attended sacrament with 3 other wards, and the Payson stake provided a luncheon for us afterward. Here are a few things our stake pres. shared with us... President Newman reminded us of the special fast we had last Nov. for more snow. We prayed, and received so much in Feb. that they had to cancel church. Our creator has the ability to take care of His children if we ask. Last Sunday after a special fast in our stake, there was no rain in the forecast, but we had rain for 5 minutes in Elk Ridge, and then a double rainbow. It wasn't enough rain to put out fires, but a sign of our Heavenly Father's love and concern for his children. "He is there, & He is aware." He told us how important our continued faith will be for upcoming, and bigger trials we will face. He asked, what can we do to build our faith in Heavenly Father, and how can we be better prepared? We need to trust in His mighty hand. He reminded us how the beauty on our mtn. is still left intact. It is a mtn. to remind us of miracles. We sang the first 3 verses of How Firm a Foundation, & it was awesome, and then verse 5 When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie, My grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply. The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design. Thy dross to consume, thy dross to consume, Thy dross to consume & thy gold to refine. Cousin Alicia Geary's weddingGirls trip to NauvooLiberty Jail, Kansas City Temple, Farr West, Hawns Mill, Zions Camp, Adam Ondi Ahman, & finally Nauvoo. The William Gheen home behind Erika, and Emily was one of the places my parents lived when they served their mission in Nauvoo. Erika has been here before, and Emily wasn't born yet. It is a special little house with special memories. It was fun to be able to see the Nauvoo Temple from the front porch of this house this time. Carthage Jail, and the Nauvoo Temple. Em and I were hoping to do sealings of ancestors, but the temple was closed for some extensive maintenance on some of the windows. Capitol ReefHiking, Halloween, Tucanoes for Zach's bday and to celebrate finding out she was going to get to go to the Philippines next week where she was orginally called! She tried some weird food that she didn't really like (she's going to be fine in the Philippine's, I think.) The temple, Payson, and City Center. We will miss Emily like crazy, but we are so excited to hear about her adventures in the Philippines as she shares the gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints!
